PENNSYLVANIA NATURAL HERITAGE PROGRAM (PNHP)

PNHP is a partnership between the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, and the Pennsylvania Science Office of The Nature Conservancy.  The PNHP conducts inventories and collects data regarding the Commonwealth's native biological diversity.  The PNHP information system is continually refined and updated to include recently discovered locations and to describe environmental changes affecting known sites. The goal is to build, maintain, and provide accurate and accessible ecological information needed for conservation, development planning, and natural resource management. We are in the process of developing new ways to provide information and tools over the Internet.

THE NATURE CONSERVANCY

International: /nature.org
Pennsylvania: nature.org/wherewework/northamerica/states/pennsylvania

Our mission is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.  We have developed a strategic, science-based planning process, called Conservation by Design, which helps us identify the highest-priority places—landscapes and seascapes that, if conserved, promise to ensure biodiversity over the long term. In other words, Conservation by Design allows us to achieve meaningful, lasting conservation results.
