Natural Resource Conservation

County Natural Heritage Inventory Program

Lawrence County

The Lawrence County Natural Heritage Inventory is an effort to look at and catalog the living resources present in the county and determine which of these resources are the best examples. Included in the inventory are natural communities such as wetlands, forests and streams, as well as rare or unusual plants and animals. Examples of these present in Lawrence include Slippery Rock Gorge in McConnell's Mill State Park, Plain Grove Fen and Westminster Woods.

The inventory is part of a statewide effort to document the living resources in the state. By knowing the significant resources in each county we can then know the most significant areas in the state.
