CONSOL Energy Gift to WPC Marks 25-year Partnership
Last month, CONSOL Energy Inc.continued its ongoing relationship with WPC when it donated $20,000 to support conservation in our region.
“We are grateful to CONSOL for its longstanding support of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and our work to protect our region’s wildlife and natural resources – support that began long ago and continues to the present day,” said Tom Saunders, president and CEO of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. “We appreciate CONSOL’s most recent gift and look forward to many more years of productive collaboration.”
CONSOL and WPC began working together in 1983, when the Conservancy sought to protect 1,000 acres in southwestern Pennsylvania. In 1985, CONSOL donated 190 acres along Enlow Fork, an important tributary of Wheeling Creek. This contribution supported ongoing efforts by the Conservancy to conserve land in that area, which supports numerous rare species of wildflowers and provides important habitat for birds and other wildlife.
In 1986, WPC conveyed the 1,000-acre tract to the Pennsylvania Game Commission to create State Game Lands #302 in Greene and Washington counties.
CONSOL’s charitable support of WPC has continued since that time, and its 2008 contribution also will be used to support the conservation of Western Pennsylvania’s most valuable natural places.
