Steps Along the Way
WPC's Milestones in 2004
14 County Natural Heritage Inventories Created
This year, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy issued the Clearfield County Natural Heritage Inventory (CNHI), the 14th completed since 1990. CNHIs provide specific information and maps on the most important natural resources in a county. This information is advancing smarter planning, where local economies grow and natural resources are sustained in a mutually beneficial way.
A record number of CNHIs are underway, 11, with Somerset, Blair, Cambria, Greene, Elk and Crawford CNHIs slated to be complete by the summer of 2006.
These inventories, which are done in partnership with county commissioners, planning staffs, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Department of Community and Economic Development and many private interests are benefiting our region enormously.
