Volunteer Calls Fallingwater Constantly Changing, Constantly Beautiful
Ask Windy Kovach why she travels twice monthly through three counties from Mars, Pa., to volunteer as an Ask Me Guide and she’ll tell you it’s because she loves it.

“I’ve always loved Fallingwater, the mountains, the Laurel Highlands and how perfectly the house fits into God’s creation.” Windy said, adding that she looks forward to her time at Bear Run because the area is “constantly changing and is constantly beautiful.”
“I enjoy witnessing the change of seasons in that setting and I also look forward to hearing the amazing stories from visitors to the site; especially those who are seeing the house for the first time. A 70-year-old man recently told me how he had always hoped to someday see Fallingwater. It’s inspiring when you hear things like that.”
Ask Me Guides make a definite time commitment to Fallingwater and participate in two lengthy training sessions in addition to regular training updates. These 3-hour tours are comprehensive and fascinating for those who appreciate the beauty of this area of Pennsylvania.
“What’s amazing about the grounds is that even on crowded days at the house you can walk a short distance and be completely by yourself,” Windy said.
This past July 20, Windy saw a black bear while walking the grounds. “It was very quiet and there was this inexplicable bit of tension in the air. I turned the corner on the Bear Run trail and saw a black bear. He must have seen me first because he was already walking away.”
Windy enjoys giving tours and guiding those who need directions. “I wish we had more volunteers,” she said. ”There’s so much we could do if there were more of us.” For more information on volunteer opportunities, contact Jennifer Sisley at 724-329-1441, ext. 1019.
