Leaf Color Range

The arrangement of this tree’s spreading leaves somewhat resemble an umbrella. It features very large leaves with creamy white flowers, that have an unpleasant odor. This tree is somewhat uncommon in Pittsburgh. However, a nice specimen grows in a magnolia collection at the Westinghouse Memorial in Schenley Park.

Height: 30’-40’ with a broad open crown of spreading branches.
Leaves: 10”-20” long, 5”-10” wide. Alternate, simple. Dark green above, paler green and hairy beneath, turning brown in autumn.
Habitat: In moist soils of mountain valleys and in hardwood forests from southern Pennsylvania, south to Georgia.
