Leaf Color Range

More a shrub than a tree, the star magnolia is usually oval to rounded with many twigs. A row of these showy trees grow beside Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. This tree is beautiful in the spring, producing lots of fragrant 3” to 4” white flowers which can last as long as 10 to 20 days. An excellent ornamental tree which is tolerant of heat and cold.

Height: 15’-20’, 10’-15’ wide.
Leaves: 2”-4” long and half as wide. Alternate, simple. Dark green above, lighter beneath, turning yellow to bronze yellow in fall.
Habitat: In varying soils from Maine to Minnesota and Georgia. Native to Japan.
