When
visiting Allegheny Commons, be sure to see the sawtooth oak
near Lake Elizabeth. This oak tree is a good choice for gardens
and large open areas such as campuses, golf courses and parks.
Look for unusual acorns with hairy scales on the cup, which
almost cover the nut. It is also found along the city’s
sidewalks, but can be troublesome because the nuts it produces
are like marbles underfoot.
