Leaf Color Range

Planted in Pittsburgh in the early 20th century, many of these trees have died due to a fungus disease. Many large old trees can still be found in the parks and along streets. Disease-resistant varieties are now being planted. This hybrid is resistant to some disease that affects our native sycamore. Kinsman Road in Point Breeze is lined with mature London Planetrees. It’s a large shade tree with a straight, stout trunk and a broad open crown of spreading to slightly drooping branches and coarse foliage.

Height: 70’ high.
Leaves: 6”-7” long; 8”-10” wide. Alternate, simple; 3 or 5 lobed. Shiny green above, pale beneath.
Habitat: In moist soils in humid regions. It does very well in Pittsburgh’s city conditions.
