Leaf Color Range

Also known as “Japanese dogwood” because of its origins in the Far East. It presents a brilliant, long-lasting display of foliage in fall. Because of its relatively horizontal branching, it is an excellent specimen tree (or shrub) near large buildings or blank walls. Kousa dogwood is resistant to the leaf blight that attacks the native dogwood. This makes it a good landscape choice for the Pittsburgh area.

Height: 20’-30’ with an equal spread, but can be smaller. Has a rounded crown with strong horizontal lines.
Leaves: 2”-4” long, 3/4”-1-3/4” wide. Opposite, simple. Dark blue-green above, paler and somewhat hairy beneath, changing to reddish-purple or scarlet in autumn.
Habitat: The Orient, Japan, China and Korea.
