Leaf Color Range

This tree is noted for its spectacular foliage. In spring, it’s a bright pink, a fresh green in summer, and shades of gold, scarlet, and purple in autumn. It’s a native of central China and Japan and is an excellent tree for homes, parks, and public areas such as golf courses. Although not common, a nice example can be found in front of the main entrance to the National Aviary in Allegheny Commons.

Height: 40’-60’ but can reach 100,’ with a rounded crown.
Leaves: 2”-4” long, equally as wide. Simple, opposite or subopposite.
Habitat: Introduced in 1865 and now widely planted throughout the United States; does well on the eastern seaboard from Maine to Florida and also in the Midwest.
