This
tree derives its name from its European background where it
was planted widely in “hedgerows” along highways.
It is also a medium-sized lawn tree which is quite tolerant
of high temperatures and drought.

Height: 25’-35,’ sometimes
as high as 75’ with a spread similar to height.
Leaves: 2”-4” long and wide. |

and wide. Opposite, simple. Glossy dark green, changing to red,
yellow and orange in autumn. |
| Habitat: The
small number of these trees planted in the Pittsburgh area do
well. Native to China but widespread in the United States,
Africa and the Near East. |
