Leaf Color Range

A beautiful spring-blossoming tree with white or pink flowers, it can be found in many yards and gardens. Because of its hardness, the wood is often used in crafting small objects such as loom shuttles, jeweler’s blocks and pulleys. Leaf blight disease makes this native dogwood difficult to grow in Pittsburgh.

Height: 30’ with a short trunk and a crown of spreading horizontal branches.
Leaves: 3”-6” long, 1-1/2”-3” wide. Opposite, simple. Dark green and smooth above, paler below with fine hairs.
Habitat: In hardwood forests, uplands and valleys from southern Ontario and Great Lakes states, east to Maine and south to Florida and west into Texas.
