Leaf Color Range

Cultivar of the Norway maple, this tree has found wide acceptance as a shade tree in urban areas. It has a rounded crown and dense foliage. A strong and vigorous tree that is well suited to the Pittsburgh area. When in full bloom, the dark purple foliage makes this tree a nice addition to the city’s streetscape.

Height: 40’-50,’ occasionally over 90.’ Usual spread is 2/3 or equal to height.
Leaves: Simple and opposite, 4”-7” across and high. Deep maroon color throughout the growing season.
Habitat: Introduced in the 1750s. This tree can be found throughout the city’s parks and neighborhoods.
