Leaf Color Range

Because of a devastating blight of the American chestnut, this tree has sometimes been an alternate choice. It is acceptable, but not nearly as handsome. It produces a foul-smelling flower in the spring which should be avoided. The nuts it produces are also bothersome.

Height: 40’-60’ with an equal spread.
Leaves: 3”-6” long, 2”-3-1/2” wide. Alternate, simple. Lustrous dark green above, whitish hairs or green beneath, changing to shades of bronze and yellow in autumn.
Habitat: Native to northern China and Korea. Adapts well to hot, dry climates.
