Leaf Color Range

This tree gets its name from the color of its freshly cut heartwood. It is an excellent tree for both its flowers and its foliage, and makes a good shade tree for smaller spaces. It can be used singly or in groups. When Sophie Masloff was mayor of Pittsburgh, she planted a small yellowwood in Mellon Park. This tree can also be found in Point State Park.

Height: 20’-30’ with a rounded crown.
Leaves: 8”-12” long, composed of alternate and pinnately compound leaflets 2”-3” long.
Habitat: Native to North America. Found from North Carolina to Kentucky and Tennessee. Also scattered in the upper Midwest.
