Downtown Planters

Pittsburgh's Downtown Planters welcome warm summer weather with beautiful flower combinations including Petunia-Wave, Verbena Lanai, Ivy Geranium, Sutera-Bacopa, Bidens Zinia-Profussion, Calibrachoa, Marigold-Antigua Series, Dragon Wing, Begonia, Double Impatien, Sweet Potato Vine, Algerian Ivy, Hedra Helix, Colocasia, Pennisetum, Cleome, and Hibiscus.

Situated throughout Downtown Pittsburgh, the beautiful planters enhance the streetscape and provide an enjoyable view for pedestrians and passersby alike. The Colcom Foundation initially supported the 400 large planters as a bouquet of flowers in the Golden Triangle to celebrate the City of Pittsburgh's 250th Birthday in 2008. They renewed the project again in 2009 to ensure a fixture of attractive greenery all over the Downtown area.

These Downtown Greening Initiatives- the Planters and the Hanging Baskets (which are supported by the Laurel Foundation), commenced with a celebration and press conference at the Benedum Theatre, presided over by former mayor of Pittsburgh, Ms. Sophie Masloff.
