Hanging Baskets
The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy hangs more than 700 flower baskets across Pittsburgh through the summer months. Thanks to the Laurel Foundation, this form of downtown greening covers the major streets of the Golden Triangle. On their own initiative, seven other neighborhoods have requested baskets that are designed and cared for by WPC.

A small but high impact form of greening, particularly in places without much space, hanging baskets add a touch of color and signal a community that cares how it looks. In 2011, WPC provided baskets in East Allegheny on the North Side, East Liberty, Garfield, Mt. Washington, South Side Flats, Troy Hill and Lawrenceville.
For downtown, funding has been provided by the Laurel Foundation, along with several corporations including Grubb and Ellis, Jenkins Empire Associates and PNC First Side. Other funders are stepping forward to assist other neighborhoods, including local businesses. For more information, please call Art DeMeo at 412-586-2346.
